Ganz im Sinne von New Work.

Home office and collaboration – completely normal at NOA
The NOA team is not completely based in Frankfurt, but works remotely from different cities in Germany. That works well and the regular exchange between the team takes place via Microsoft teams.

Due to the Corona crisis, workplaces in many companies were relocated to their own desks as of now, an unfamiliar situation for many employees, especially since the technical requirements were often not met.

Working on a project together

Small and medium-sized companies in particular did not have the choice to meet these requirements and solutions for a particular need had to be found. Mutual trust between the boss and employees is a prerequisite for a smooth workflow.

Fortunately, we are well positioned and use digital tools for communication and collaboration. With Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, every employee in the team is able to work on joint projects in real time.

We are a start-up company and that is certainly one of the reasons why digital processes seem more natural to us than, for example, for medium-sized companies with established hierarchical structures. An open feedback culture, team spirit and open communication are natural at NOA. In the spirit of New Work.

For us, cooperation is the key to success

Work-Life-Balance (DE – ENG)

Was bedeutet Work-Life-Balance?

What does work-life balance mean?

Mental illnesses are now responsible for many days off, far ahead from colds and back problems.
Home office and digital transformation, these are changes that are not easy to master for every employee. This stress can create pressure, which in turn makes you sick.

Take care of yourself…

Do the job and the corporate culture match the goals of the employees? Taking responsibility is a good resource for one person, but it can cause stress and anxiety for another.
Care and mindfulness are important to prevent burnout. Those who work in home office have to take care of themselves and be careful not to overwhelm themselves.
Flexible working time models help optimize your own resources.
Feedback discussions with superiors are important because this is the only way for the employer to find out whether the work-life balance is being maintained. If necessary, the employee is encouraged to take it easy.

Work vs. Work-life balance

Millennials in particular are happy to be able to live this autonomy. This promotes greater identification with the company and the team.
Trust pays off and gives everyone the opportunity to act at their own pace.
Corona has changed the world of work in a lasting way, and companies have learned what potential home workplaces can have.
We can support companies to improve the working atmosphere in companies, especially in these Corona times.

COVID tracing app: what is happening in Europe?

With this post, we try to answer the question in the title. Although the worst period of contagion has passed (in Europe), COVID19 continues to claim victims and the possibility of a second wave is real.

Several countries have developed the famous tracing apps, which allows you to keep track of contacts between people and consequently promptly intervene in case of contact with a person infected with COVID.

Without going around the problem and leaving aside the privacy issues that many people are speculating on, in Europe, we haven’t been able to develop a single and unique tracing app. Each European country (not all) has its own exclusive app and we have to deal with it.

The question arises: if I travel between different European countries, will the app of my country of residence be enough? The answer at the moment is no but not for long. In fact, the European Commission agreed on the interoperability of the tracing apps. This means that (hopefully!) soon National applications will be able to interact with each other. At the moment we just have to download the apps of all the countries in which we will travel.

It can be annoying to have to search for every single app or information, so we are working on a project that will soon simplify the days of those who decide to travel safely.

More information will be released shortly, keep following us.

Collaboration: the key to success.

Collaboration nowadays is a big topic in many companies. Due to the Corona pandemic we got another clue, how important it is to work together with colleagues and to communicate. Collaboration has many different perspectives.

1) Promote problem-solving: a group of people with different skills can deal with critical issues with different approaches and points of view. Although today there are different opinions on how effective heterogeneos teams really are (combination of different skills vs. conflicts between differences) there is no denying that the combination of many individual knowledges is more effecting than relying on just one individual.

2) Team spirit can lead to more motivation: it was shown in many different situations, that having goals as a team can lead to more motivation than working alone.

3) Increases employee satisfaction, productivity and efficency: feeling part of a project is rewarding, allows one to work better and involves achieving a common goal.

These are just some of the benefits of collaboration. Well, now we understand that collaboration is important. How can we improve our working environment? Here are some simple tricks that will help you:

1) Listen twice the amount of time you spend talking – and listen actively Be ready to listen to your colleagues and empathize with the issues raised. Give them permanently feedback.

2) We win together. We lose together. The group’s goals are achieved by all members. The work of each member is important for achieving the objectives, but it is the end result that counts. In the group we are all winners or all losers.

3) Flexibility. Being ready to help and adapt to group needs is a fundamental step for its success. Be prepared to rearrange your time in the most appropriate way.

Here at NOA we have made collaboration the key to the success of our business. The collaboration between colleagues and external partners represents one of the central pillars of our corporate ethics.

We strongly believe that collaboration is the first step in facing the challenges that the world offers us every day.

NOA in times of corona

The times we are currently facing are times of uncertainty for many of us. That a virus from one part of the world could lead to a lockdown all over the world and cause many hospitals to near the end of their capacities is a scenario most of us could not imagine.

On our front page and our social media channels, we are currently showing a video that starts to tell the NOA story. This first video is the beginning of a row of puzzle pieces to show what NOA is about. Keep following our different channels to get to know more about our vision.

This is where a new story begins

In the picture above, you can see the skyline of Frankfurt at the Main in Germany. The picture was captured from our office window. Frankfurt is an interesting place for our offices, the reasons for that are multiple:

Reason #1: Frankfurt has one of the biggest airports in Europe.

In 2019 there were about 71 million passengers and about 2 million tons of goods passing the airport. For passengers, that’s the 4th highest value in Europe and for goods the 8th highest in the world. (see s1)

Reason #2: Frankfurt has many big companies operating from here

In Frankfurt, there are many big companies located, for example big German banks like Commerzbank or important travel companies like Deutsche Bahn or Lufthansa Maintenance. (see s2)

Reason #3: Frankfurt is very central

In Germany, Frankfurt is not only perfectly connected with it’s big airport and train station, it is also very central. There are many quick routes to get to the most important areas in Germany.

Reason #4: The skyline

Frankfurt has the biggest skyline that a German city can offer. No other city in Germany has so many buildings with a height of 100 meters or more. In Frankfurt, there are even 30 of them. From the NOA office, you have a great view on the bank area (as seen in the picture). (see s3)

What is the role of psychologists in the corporate context?

In a private context, going to a psychologist is more of a taboo subject. Considering that in the vast majority of cases the employees are the most valuable asset of a company, it is hard to understand that even in the business world there is barely any talk about it. According to DAK, 15.2% of sick days today have a psychological background. Often it is about illnesses that are on the rise in Germany, such as Depression or Burnout-Syndrome. Every company can help prevent this from happening in the first place. In general with, meaningful, holistic tasks that motivate employees. Similarly, words of praise and appreciation from superiors help employees to feel valued and enjoy going to work.

In business psychology, several instruments have been developed which make it possible to analyse the working conditions in a company and provide the basis for measures. For example, the procedure to determine regulatory requirements (VERA) allows the regulatory requirements of a particular job to be recorded by means of observing interviews and, based on this, design measures to increase motivation at work without increasing mental stress. As a rule, such procedures are designed for production activities and office work.

Do you need advice on business psychology? We will be happy to assist you in all matters and will work with you to develop measures for assessing the status quo and optimising the working climate in your company.

Our project engineer Julian Cunow is just finishing his master degree in business psychology with a master thesis about the topic “How can involvement and participation in the software engineering process result in more positive acceptance for business software”?
